The Hazards of Love by The Decemberists

March 25, 2009

Just look at that album cover and you know…The Decemberists are changing it up a  bit. The album dropped this last Tuesday. I listened to it for the first time today at work — first impression — heavy. I’m sure as I begin to unpack it (I’m listening to it again right now) new pieces will show up. My major take aways were: the heavy guitar riffs, darker mood, and the fact that the entire album runs together as one long song — It’s a concept album that tells one story thoughout the entire 17 songs. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the album, but if you’re looking for “The Cranes Wife” part deux, I’m not sure if you really gonna get it. (Amazon.com – The Hazards of Love)
