Did you ever wonder…

May 6, 2009

Who designed this this iconic, viral, color coordinating image anyway? Probably some slick graphic designer that got picked up by Urban Outfitters or something, right? Not quite. This poster was originally commissioned as inspirational propaganda to muster solidarity among the British during the “Blitz” – Germany’s offensive to take England during WWII. After some research for this post, I found that this poster was the final message in a 3 part series commissioned by the British Ministry of Information and was created by A.P Waterfield (I think). This last poster was never deployed and was meant to be a message of last resort, somewhat preemptively preparing the public to cope with serving their new Aryan overlords. So now you know.

This was a really interesting article on the matter in The Gurdian last March.
