Sony HQ

I spent the afternoon for work at the Sony Electronics HQ in Rancho Bernardo, CA (San Diego). They recently completed the construction of their new 11 story gem of a building. This facility has a Silver LEED certification and was designed by San Diego based Carrier Johnson Architects (these guys happen to be building a new student housing complex at my Alma Mater, UCSD, as well). This building was beautiful! The rooftop lounge and cafeteria – if you can call it that – were amazing! The rooftop patio had fireplaces! It looked like a ritzy modern hotel. The pictures above don’t do the space justice. Plus, my favorite part of the place was the floor-to-ceiling b&w vintage image of the Japanese founders giving each other a high-five and laughing in the first floor lobby. The image was a poignant and beautiful connection to this massive brand’s rich heritage, and an uncharacteristically colloquial depiction of the usually buttoned-up Japanese.
