The Tempelhof Airport in Berlin was closed in October of 2008 as officials sought to consolidate air traffic to a single airport for the capital city. Now the site lays desolate waiting for officials and the public to decide what to do with the defunct space. German architect Jakob Tigges has proposed a visionary use of the land. Tigges wants to build a 1000+ meter tall man-made mountain to serve as a natural habitat, ecosystem, recreation site, and tourist destination. “The Berg” will even get snow on it peaks September – March!
